The American Bandog Mastiff breed exists today mainly thanks to the work and dedication of two American mastiff breeders.
in the 1960s, an American veterinaria, John Swinford, determined to breed the ultimate guardian dog. He did this by consistently crossing a male American Pit bull Terrier and a large, strong Neapolitan Mastiff female. Another major contribution to the development of the breed was Joe Lucero, another American mastiff breeder, Joe Lucero. He is credited with naming the new dogs as American Bandog Mastiffs.
